Choosing project series cameras
Project series cameras suit sites where the standard range falls short: motorised lenses, perimeter analytics, number plate capture, 360 degree views or personal recording. Choose by the job first, then pair the camera with a recorder that supports the same functions.
- Lens type
- A motorised varifocal lens, for example 2.7 to 13.5 mm, lets you set the field of view from the browser after mounting, which saves a second visit with a ladder. Fixed lenses suit repeat installations where the view is already known.
- Smart functions
- Tripwire and intrusion detection on the camera can separate people and vehicles from shadows and insects, which cuts false alarms. Check whether the function runs on the camera or relies on a Smart or AI NVR for event search.
- Fisheye, ANPR and body-worn
- Fisheye cameras give a 360 degree view from a ceiling mount and rely on dewarping in the recorder or app. ANPR cameras are tuned for number plates and need a defined lane, a shallow mounting angle and a suitable shutter speed. Body-worn cameras record to internal storage and are for personal use, not fixed coverage.
- Night vision type
- IR models record in black and white at night. Full-colour and dual-light models carry a warm light as well as IR, so you can choose discreet IR or colour recording where light is acceptable.
- Storage and recorder
- microSD slots, up to 512 GB on these models, give edge backup. Pair the cameras with an NVR whose incoming bandwidth and decoding capacity cover every project camera at its configured bitrate.
- Power draw
- Draw runs from about 2 W at idle to about 13 W at full load with illumination on. Some models come close to the 12.95 W that an 802.3af device can receive, so budget with the maximum figure.
Installation and compatibility
- Mount ANPR cameras at a shallow angle to a single lane and set the shutter speed for the vehicle speed. Test at night before fixing the position.
- A fisheye camera gives the full 360 degree view on a ceiling. On a wall it gives a 180 degree panorama.
- Update camera and recorder firmware together so that smart functions and search stay compatible.
